Teaching Practice - Special Educational Needs

"Without opportunities for art: The talent lying within a student with disabilities could be lost forever."

Nancy Bailey

Central Remedial Clinic, Clontarf East, Dublin

The Central Remedial Clinic is the largest organisation in Ireland for people with physical disabilities.  They provide a full range of services to over four thousand people with disabilities throughout the country.

Their mission is to make a positive difference to the lives of people with disabilities, their families and carers.

This placement was a group placement which involved team planning and solo teaching.  It was a fantastic and challenging experience working in a team to develop an overall lesson plan that spread over three different groups and culminated in a mural for the CRC gym hall.  This placement helped my organisational and team management skills while also giving me experience with differentiation that I could apply in my mainstream placement.

Personally, I found this placement to be very rewarding.  From the people I met; the carers, the teachers and the students, to the overall work ethic and dedication of my colleagues.  It's something I will never forget.
